I watched Inland Empire this weekend. Man, I love Twin Peaks, but I still can't make up my mind on what I think about Lynch's other work. I like Wild at Heart, and Lost Highway is decent. Inland Empire was way too long, I think, but Laura Dern was exceptional (as usual).
I generally have a hard time with surrealism in storytelling. I love it as a static art, but I just can't get on board if there's not some kind of reason for me to watch. I can't get into Buñuel's films and some of Fellini for the same reason.

Of the list, I've heard of Trick or Treat but Exorcist III is the only one I've seen. The latter is a pretty good adaptation of Blatty's novel Legion and it has one of the most unnerving shock scenes I've seen because it takes so damned long to occur (the one the write-up mentions).
The first 5 are all favorites, they stumped me on #9 (Pulse) I never flipped over the J horror, though I have seen a handful, just not that one. Q is great, Ron Cey has a cameo as a cop. I'm serious.

We saw War For The Planet Of The Apesat a second run theater. A friend told me it was not good so didn't see it a first run theater. I have to agree. It started out great but fizzled quickly.

I really want to see it, and I really wanted to see it in theater, but missed. I loved the 1st 2 in theater, but though they both fell off on the 2nd home viewing. But I'm still looking forward to it.

I watched that "War for the Planet of the Apes" movie on DVD over the weekend.
Was bored shitless about 1/2 way through and stopped watching.
Picked it up again the next day, and multitasked while it was on in the background.
I was very surprised that most critics raved about it.
It just didn't grab me, and the characters were too stereotypical:
Deranged rogue army guy a la Apocalypse Now ... check
Lead character (Caesar) wondering if he's on higher moral ground than the enemies he's pursuing ... check
Little girl symbolizing innocence ... check
Lone survivor (Caesar's son) of slaughter to remind us that family is the most important thing ever a la every Hallmark Movie ... check
Comic relief (Bad Ape) a la every single buddy comedy ... check
It was just trite beyond belief, and the soul-searching by Caesar was just painful to watch as it was just one worn-out trope after another.
And it didn't help that 2-3 times, long monologues had to be inserted just to advance the plot.

We're waiting for it to come on a movie channel. For whatever reason, the trailers just didn't pique my interest.

We watched War For The Planet Of The Apes this evening. Not very good at all. Meandering most of the time, a lot of violence that could be considered torture porn, cliched action flick violence, cliched moral debates, cliched characterizations. Take out the apes and this would be a cheesy, lazy war movie. The CGI is impressive and all that, but I can't see anything of this film that contributes positively to the overall series. I'd rather imagine the interim between Dawn and the eventual ape-dominated world.

Watching the first Zodiac killer movie, made in 1971. "Loosely based" doesn't even come close to describing this. Super amateurish sensationalism and entertaining on that level. Fun fact: it was made chiefly in the hope that the real killer wouldn't be able to resist seeing it and that he'd somehow give himself away at a showing.
