The Winter Sports (Skiing, et al.) Thread Redux

Sweet action for kids 'n' cretins. Marjoram and capers.

I hope so, since that's basically all I do.

UPDATE: Hoy arrived in Colorado alive. Hoy also seemed to leave Keystone alive. We'll see what a night of drinking at high elevation will do to him (Beanie, I'm taking him to the Dillon Dam Brewery).

I want drunken pics of Hoy at altitude. Maybe the thin air will soften his attitude towards Space (the band).

What a good weekend. Flex and I slammed Dews before snaking some pow and hucking our meat. It was extreme. I put on Dictator to fire us up before skiing on the last day but it gave Flex a headache, so we put on Tegan and Sara instead. It was less extreme. I got to see his music store that all the hippies complain about Metal Machine Music. I bought a Peter Tosh comp there and tried to play some steel guitar. The last night we ate some tasty burgers at a local brewery. This poster caught our eyes:

Luckily Flex had this dvd at home so we popped it in and I finally got to see Elvis play a double neck guitar.

On the drive to the airport we listened to the Woodstock 94 album.
Look, you have to establish context for these things. And I maintain that unless you appreciate the Fall of Constantinople, the Great Fire of London, and Mickey Mantle's fatalist alcoholism, live Freddy makes no sense. If you want to half-ass it, fine, go call Simon Schama to do the appendix.

This was the scene at Breckenridge's closing weekend. Whiteout snow conditions. Bottomless freshies. Shredding the pow-pow. Totally sick.

(Yes, that's me giving the Hoyian thumbs up)

Any chance they'll keep it open longer?

Nah, they have to close because their Forest Service permit requires them to.

Loveland Ski Area is open through the first week in May and Arapahoe Basin is open through the first week in June, tho.

Plenty of skiing left. It's supposed to snow here almost every day this week.

I never liked skiing Loveland -- it was always too fucking cold there. I guess being next to the continental divide or something. :shifty: Plus, people can see you take a spill from I-70. Not that I ever took spills or anything. :shifty:

I think Loveland is great. If I lived on the other side of the tunnel, I'd definitely be getting a pass there. But when there are at least two other ski areas closer, it's tough to get out there too often.

They added a lift to the top of the ridge over the last 10 years or so, which really opened it up. It's the only area right in the Summit County area that isn't at all corporate and stuff.

It is true that the skiers do provide good entertainment to the folks on the highway if they take a particularly hellacious spill...
