I just watched The Hills Have Eyes Part 2 (1985) for free. It was pretty half assed and lame. The original is at least decent right?
Look, you have to establish context for these things. And I maintain that unless you appreciate the Fall of Constantinople, the Great Fire of London, and Mickey Mantle's fatalist alcoholism, live Freddy makes no sense. If you want to half-ass it, fine, go call Simon Schama to do the appendix.

Yeah, that's notoriously one of the worst movies ever. I mean, the flashback scene is told from the eyes of German Sheppard for cryin out loud. Craven has more duds than not, though his good material is enough for a free pass.
