Solo was fun. It's weird to me that people don't like this movie. It's 100% sci-fi pulp escapades with Donald Glover being Lando. I fail to see what the downside was.
Because fun is mainsteam, which means allowing audiences who haven't proved that they deserve to watch Star Wars a seat at the table. Nerd culture operates like high culture—it has to be exclusive and earned to be any good. Anything for the masses must be shit. Never mind that Star Wars has always pursued as many paying customers as possible, but the really invested nerds hate that comics and scifi is no longer their fiefdom and so they hate it on principle.

DG was perfect. He was born to play a young Lando.

My favorite part was when Jeffrey Tambor gave Gonzo such a dressing down that he cried.

Watching Starcrash, a terrible Star Wars knockoff, and the titular Starcrash is exactly the maneuver Holdo pulls in TLJ! Also Stella Star flies through space into a ship a la Leia.

Finally saw Solo this afternoon. I thought it was a bucketload of fun. One thing that struck me was the thematic continuity with Rogue One and Last Jedi in that it deals with non-Force characters and ideas of sacrifice and heroism. The story was fairly predictable in terms of various characters' fates and all that, but it was a well-told tale. Not exactly a story that required telling, but it expands the Star Wars meta-story in a satisfying way. The only thing that bugged me is that at times shots of Alden Ehrenreich made him look like Jack Black.

No, not the only thing that bugged me. I had the pleasure of having a dipshit sit beside me. She had the most insipid laugh and unleashed it liberally, even at things that weren't funny (like distraught Lando cradling L3's head). I look forward to re-watching the movie without her being present.

The Remake The Last Jedi movement (such as it is) reminds me of this:

Also, Star Wars content:
Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a bowl of soup
Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a rolling hoop
Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a ton of lead
Wiggle - you can raise the dead

The term snowflake is ridiculously overused and misapplied, but if you need to redo a movie because it includes people who make you uncomfortable, stay away from over fires.

The only people who might see it will be Disney's lawyers.
