Now that Wolter's seen TFA, I can share my story about how I got the most major spoiler spoiled. I bumped into a big middle aged guy with learning difficulties I know from a club I volunteer at next to a cinema.
"How are you, fella? How's your day?"
"I just seen Star Wars."
"Oh yeah?! How was it?"
"Good. Harrison Ford died."
In my head: Ah, fuck fuck fuckkkk.
"Oh no, did he mate?"

I never expected Harison Ford to be in any more Star Wars movies so his being in this one and dying was a bonus. :shifty: I like this new movie much more than I thought I would. I wonder how well it will stand up in 40 years time.

I think its long-term reputation will stand and fall on how good the next 2 movies are. If they are both rote retreads, it will be seen as a quirky abberation--a nice fun pastiche of the OT. If they are well made and add to the "mythos," then it will be seen as a strong reboot of a beloved franchise.

Pretty much, yeah. If the AotC and RofS had been strong films, TPM would likely be better considered because it gets to be part of a well-regarded larger story. Because the prequel trilogy is considered a disappointment overall, no benefit of the doubt is offered.

There has to be a new movie with a huge battle between the Ewoks and the Gungans. I don't care about any timeline just make this movie.

Contrasting the appeal of Star Wars and Star Trek: http://io9.gizmodo.com/the-essential-di ... 1754297235

The last paragraph echoes the argument of Tom Engelhardt, who suggested that Star Wars took advantage of post-Viet Nam America, which was in need of thinking of itself not as an evil empire but virtuous rebels.

Oh, I saw the Star Wars movie. That's gotta be the best one, right?

Most lists settle on original Star Wars and Empire as 1 and 2 (which is which varies), TFA at 3, Jedi at 4, and then the prequels in some various ranking that no one really cares about.
