gotta be honest, I think I would take Beethoven over the Pistols. I never was all that big into the Pistols.
That picture looks more like the Testors than the Pistols anyway.
Definitely not the Pistols, tho I couldn't say who it actually is. The one on the right kinda looks like Devoto.

There was an episode of Red Dwarf in the eighties where a young, drunk Craig Ferguson pronounced the composer's name as Beet-Hoven and it takes me a few run-ups to not say it thag way.

So, a couple years ago, the house next door to us was bought, torn down, and a fancy modern thing built. It was designed to be a two-family deal, with the son and his wife on the main floor and up, while his retired parents lived in the basement. The old guy is a prick—the wife despises him because she pointed out that they designed it in a way that a bedroom window faces directly into our only northside window, and into the bathroom, and he blew her off by saying they had a permit and could do what they wanted; which wasn't the point really …—but I'm on cordial enough terms with the son. Then, last week, they put the place up on the market. The wife is torn in her feelings—she wants them gone, but doesn't want them to make a profit on the sale (oh yeah, she's bitter). I don't know if they always intended to sell it quickly, but it seems weird to make it a two-family house and to actually live in it for about a year and a half before unloading, so maybe they can't maintain payments or sonny's gotten a transfer. They're asking a surprisingly high figure for the place and I'll be stunned if they get it, mainly because the basement suite isn't normal for expensive properties like that (but, if we sell next year, I guess that'd be good for us?). Now, on a Thursday, they had an open house from 11 am to 1 pm. So much of this shit baffles me. Are they super clever or really dumb?

Ha, no. It's a big ol' narrow rectangle. Modern sleek and generic in its own class. They also fucked up when laying the foundation. They needed to go about 2 feet farther from the curb. Because of this, the driveway is only deep enough for a compact. Sooner or later they were going to get ticketed because the ass end of their car is in the sidewalk.

Wow. $1.2 million (I know that's in your fake Monopoly money, but still) for something the big bad wolf could easily blow down. Just another subset of the McMansion taking over.

There is one house on our street that sold for that much, but it's much bigger and has more going for it (chiefly a rooftop deck). But it's unusual. This one is the sterility of property development shows. And it's seriously over-priced unless our neighbourhood has gotten stupid hot in spite of my presence.

Another open house is scheduled today, 5 pm to 7 pm, which, again, seems … sub-optimal for attracting the curious (isn't there a good reason that open houses happen on weekend afternoons?). I told B that maybe that's the time I work in the front garden wearing my "World's Sexiest Grandma" shirt …
