These panels just made me think of one of the funnier things Bill Simmons ever wrote: Gary Sheffield looks like the last face you'd ever see if you tried to cheat a loanshark.

I'm getting it new from Amazon, so I'd hope it isn't a boot...
Oh, you must mean one of the graphic novels, yes? I thought you were talking about the actual issue #1!

Oh, ha. Yeah, I mean the graphic novels. I don't even have those. Just digital copies. I feel sort of bad about not having paid any many yet for such an epic work.

Amazon. Or, I'm sure you could mail order direct from Aardvark-Vanaheim.

The only means of his effort are his self-published comics. All three hundred issues. Batshit crazy views on God and raging misogyny aside, he's actually a genius of the field. Cerebus is fucking sickass good when it is good. The misogyny didn't really come to the forefront until "Reads." And God didn't enter the equation until "Rick's Story."

Hey, Flex: did you see The ISB today? Most "90s" Comic cover contest. Chris Sims' (no relation) candidate is fucking sickhouse bad.

You shouldn't.

The sad thing? I could EASILY draw "90s style" comics. However, they are the most hateful cul-de-sac into awful that the genre has ever taken.

Probably every single comic released by Image could have a stake in this contest.

Anyways, I blame shit like this for me not getting into comics until about 4 years ago. Growing up in the 90s was a terrible way to get into comicry (not that there wasn't plenty of good stuff, but it wasn't to be found for a kid looking for some Supes or Batman or whatever).

I seriously stopped for about a decade. They were so FUCKING bad.

Death of Superman and some of the "return" comics may be the only contemporary comics I bought at the time. I usually bought used comics from the 70s as a kid.

For me, the 90s were all about Cerebus, Bone, Hate, Eightball, Love & Rockets, etc. The current boom in Silver Age trades and bootleg torrents would have probably turned teenage me into a) a total social misfit and b) a successful comics artist, as I would have had a lot more inspiration to get into the field.
