Any Mac / Leopard users …

My next PC will be running Ubuntu.

I'm using it on my laptop. It works perfectly on a hard drive that would freeze every other day with XP.eumaas wrote:My next PC will be running Ubuntu.

Yeah, I can't really disagree. I wonder how much of it has to do with the hardware and OS designer being one and the same. That is, it's more closed to to 3rd party stuff, which offers better integration of official Apple stuff, but that rigidity increases the depth a fuck up because there's fewer outsiders poking about (and that it's not designed to have outsiders poking around). Maybe I'm just talking out of my ass on this …Wolter wrote:I once heard it described (I think by Kevin Murphy of MST3K fame) as the difference between driving a sleek import or an old American car. The old beater (PC) breaks down a lot, but you can usually fix it yourself. The import (Mac) hardly ever screws up, but when it does, you usually have to call in a pro to fix it.Dr. Medulla wrote: [I've had Macs for about sixteen years now, and I'd agree. I haven't had many problems with them (certainly not as many as my Windows using friends seem to) but when something fucks up, it tends to be a clusterfuck of a problem. My experience working for IT has generally shown me that Windows problems tend to be more numerous but less serious while Apple problems tend to be more isolated but more serious. I think our two tales generally support that analysis.

I agree with Flex on Vista. I've been using it for about 6-8 months now and have had no problems. I've actually been pretty happy with Windows performance since Win2k. The trick has always been to have enough RAM and not have it gobbled up by useless or questionable apps. So Flex you work in a record store and as an IT guy? Don't you also work at a ski resort?

I have worked as an IT guy. And I recently stopped working at the ski resort. I still occasionally log hours at my record store, but my main job now is a campaign manager for a Colorado state senate race.revbob wrote:So Flex you work in a record store and as an IT guy? By way of update, zero problems today with the fan control keeping the temp between 32 and 37C. No freezes while watching the Sox game. Hey, Apple, I've thought of something you might build into the next revision of Leopard …

That or a fan that can move more air across the cpu or just a better interior design so that more heat can be dissipated by the existing fans.Dr. Medulla wrote:By way of update, zero problems today with the fan control keeping the temp between 32 and 37C. That'd be a hardware change—and a welcome one. But for existing machines, having this kind of control built in makes sense. Indeed, overheating issues or not, having easy access to the internal temperature and controlling the fan speed seems an obvious useful add-on.revbob wrote:That or a fan that can move more air across the cpu or just a better interior design so that more heat can be dissipated by the existing fans.Dr. Medulla wrote:By way of update, zero problems today with the fan control keeping the temp between 32 and 37C. Philosopher Spiff asks, can God create a bathhouse so fabulous that He can't laid in it?Dr. Medulla wrote:So, god hangs out in bathhouses?
