I've had the fan (a Lasko, with a remote control) for about a week now and I'm generally impressed. I've only used it on low because it generates a decent and cold breeze that way. I'm feeling good that come July and August, when the temps really kick up, using it on high will compensate for the heat.Kory wrote: ↑07 May 2019, 6:52pmThat's a good idea, if I ever have room for a treadmill, I might try that.Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑07 May 2019, 6:22pmI still haven't shifted to outdoor riding this year—cold and wet spring, with too many cool days between the warm ones—but I decided today that I'm going to stick to indoor riding year round. I've suddenly gotten queazy feelings about riding on the parkway. Not that I'm superstitious, but I don't like the idea of doing that when I'm a bit on edge. So today I ordered a big ol' wind-tunnel style fan to put in the basement to compensate for the warmer temps. Hopefully that'll keep me cool enough.

Re: IMCT Running Club
Now that I'm permanently biking indoors, I decided to look into some kind of video accompaniment. I could invest in yet another new trainer that would sync up preloaded video courses (uphills and downhills alter the resistance), but I wasn't keen on that kind of expense. So I thought about an iPad mount, where I could watch videos of bike rides without the interactivity (save for in my brain). I was a bit concerned by the reviews for the durability of the bike mounts (except for the $100+ models, which is more than I want to pay of this little experiment), so I decided on an extendable tripod. I can set it up in front of me, plus it's handy for taking photos of documents (I've used them in archives; super useful and easy). I'll still listen to audiobooks, but I'm hoping the video can trick my brain a bit into thinking these rides aren't quite so monotonous.

I did a course in my bike that I used to do all the time back in the day. It took me about 50 min to go 12.5 miles
I swear I used to be able to do that in closer to 30 min. Its mostly flat. I was also 20 something in those days.
I was passing people left and right on the first leg but started dragging on the latter half of the second leg.

If you don't cycle regularly, yeah, it's the stamina part that'll fuck ya. And 12.5 miles isn't a quick ride around the block. That's a decent distance.revbob wrote: ↑07 Jul 2019, 9:16pmI did a course in my bike that I used to do all the time back in the day. It took me about 50 min to go 12.5 miles

I’m thinking about getting a dumpy bike to ride to the bar on. My preferred local is a 20 minute walk so I bet I could get there in 5 minutes on a bike.Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑07 Jul 2019, 9:42pmIf you don't cycle regularly, yeah, it's the stamina part that'll fuck ya. Re: IMCT Running Club
I feel like this, my nearest is only a 5 minute walk away but it's around £3.70 a pint, not really worth it. We usually go to a good place that's a 25 minute walk. Much longer but less than £3 a pint, can't argue.101Walterton wrote: ↑08 Jul 2019, 6:38amMove!revbob wrote: ↑08 Jul 2019, 6:34amIt would take me 15 to 20 min to walk to the nearest bar.101Walterton wrote: ↑08 Jul 2019, 1:32amJust quietly a local ain’t a 20 minute walk mateBostonBeaneater wrote: ↑08 Jul 2019, 12:33amI’m thinking about getting a dumpy bike to ride to the bar on. Speaking of bikes, the Boss rode to work for the first time this year. She has one of those faux old-timey nerd bikes, with three gears and braking by pedaling backwards. But she's probably the only human who rides that kind without a goofy grin as she goes.
