Having lived in Grand Rapids for a year I can say that it is a tiny blue dot in the West Michigan hellscape. Founders does a lot for that town and they also make a delightful porter.

I enjoyed your Michigan stories.BostonBeaneater wrote: ↑20 Sep 2018, 10:25amHaving lived in Grand Rapids for a year I can say that it is a tiny blue dot in the West Michigan hellscape. Founders does a lot for that town and they also make a delightful porter.
Yeah, their stout game is on point: Breakfast, Kentucky Breakfast, Canadian are all so good. We just started getting distro a few years ago, so it's nice to have another readily available awesome bourbon barrel stout.
Look, you have to establish context for these things. And I maintain that unless you appreciate the Fall of Constantinople, the Great Fire of London, and Mickey Mantle's fatalist alcoholism, live Freddy makes no sense. If you want to half-ass it, fine, go call Simon Schama to do the appendix.

Perhaps the only reason to visit out there is the beer. Founders, Odd Side, Perrin, Creston, Brew Vivant, and Bell's are the top ones that come to mind. Despite my bitching about the area in general, Grand Rapids has a few fun spots including; Stella's and the Meanwhile which are great rocker bars and altogether too many brew pubs to count. Brew Vivant is pretty special. It's in the chapel at an old funeral home.

I'll try it and report back.
Re: Thread O'Booze REVISED!
I mean, it's Harpoon so it's not going to get beyond "pretty good," but it's probably not bad.

That's about right. I am generally not a fan of fruited beer but this has been a good summer drink this year.matedog wrote: ↑04 Oct 2018, 1:56pmI mean, it's Harpoon so it's not going to get beyond "pretty good," but it's probably not bad.

No longer reliable? Or you can't get it in Flexville?

I have a sudden and intense craving for bourbon, so I'm venturing out for a bottle.
