Yeah, Mr Harley made some great records! Everyone remembers Come Up & See Me of course, but Mr Soft and Judy Teen were catchy and quirky enough to lodge firmly in my childhood memory bank, and sound great to this day.
RIP Steve.

When I first started getting into music I was going through my Dads album collection and saw this weird sleeve for The Psychomodo. My dad never used to play his 70s albums, preferring quirky singles and the radio so I had no idea what to expect. He told me to put on Mr Soft and, because I was at a certain age (11 or 12), I probably made some "precocious" comment about being a softy but the song blew me away. To be honest, I didn't really get anything else on the album but I would return to Mr Soft all the time so it always has a place in my heart.
Sometimes, I want to go down a deep Steve Harley rabbit hole but I'm happy enough to stay in my lane and love what I know of him as it is.

The title track is my favourite from that album. Just blows me away. The lyrics and style influenced John Rotten. Listen to Harley singing "Destroy" after so wasted line.

I also just saw that Eric Carmen passed away. He's known to many for his slick 80's hits, but he did some excellent work with the Raspberries in the 1970's. They're not my favorite power pop group (a bit too lite), but they had some great tunes.

That's a great shout - I'd never noticed that before

He played a lot of creepy characters (if I'm thinking of the right guy).
