Burn the tapes!

(I'm reading 70s histories for this upcoming course, so that's my response to all scandals—destroy the evidence before it becomes evidence.)
As a political advisor I always recommend burning the tapes
It's not the crime, it's the cover-up. And it's not the cover-up, it's failing to destroy the evidence.
If you get caught, can you even really say it was a cover-up?
Are we talking Nixon or Shohei here?

Would Nixon have been a Yankees fan?
Pro: He was a terrible person, just like the Yankees. Steinbrenner was also an illegal donor.
Con: He hated the Establishment, and the Yankees revelled in being baseball's Establishment.

Nixon was evil, the Yankees are evil. The Yankees wear pinstripes, Nixon should have ended his life in pinstripes. Let's not overthink this.

His racism is the only thing that might endear him to the Red Sox, but the Boston/Kennedy thing would be too much of a repellant.

Tho the obvious curiosity/raised eyebrow is whether he was betting *for* Ohtani. Even if that's true, no way MLB punishes Ohtani. He could strange Manfred's daughter with his mistress' severed arms and they'd find a way to keep Ohtani in the game.

Assuming the Red Sox stink again this year, my chief rooting interest is the Jays … if Joey Votto ends up making the team. I want the story being hin rejuvenated, forcing his way into the line-up and beating the Padres* in the WS Joe Carter style.

* The Dodgers win 125 games in the regular season and get swept in the DS. Ohtani, however, makes serious bank betting against the Dodgers.

For every five season simulations Baseball Prospectus ran, the Dodgers failed to win the World Series four times. For every six simulations Fangraphs ran, the Dodgers failed to win the World Series five times.

Today's Immaculate Grid asked for a Yankee who won a Gold Glove. Had to pick the greatest shortstop of all time. Re2pect. :shifty:

How long until the Red Sox are good again?
We asked evaluators around the league.

Ultimately, I don't know if the ownership especially cares about being good again. There's a possibility that they think the brand is sufficient to generating enough profit that actually doing what it takes to be competitive is a waste of resources. When they fired Bloom it seemed to suggest they wanted a winner sooner than later, but this off-season didn't confirm that guess.
