The brilliant Joao Gilberto has passed away. There was a great jazz combo at the farmer's market today and they played some of his stuff in his honor. Getz/Gilberto is an all-time album to me.

I had to check his age, thinking he might have been 120 or something. 89. He seemed like a man with good intentions, at least that's how I remember him.

The BEST baseball book ever written and one of the coolest guys to ever put on a uniform.Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑11 Jul 2019, 6:32amJim Bouton, author of the still excellent Ball Four and inventor of Big League Chew.
I play vintage base ball and when we first formed our team - our captain reached out to Bouton (who was big into vintage ball) and had a really interesting conversation with him about the game. Guy was super passionate about baseball.

He was like the Bill Lee of the Yankees—guys who love the game, hate the owners and administrators. I came across a wonderful line of his from Ball Four in one of the obit stories: "You spend a good piece of your life gripping a baseball and in the end it turns out that it was the other way around all the time."WestwayKid wrote: ↑11 Jul 2019, 9:16amThe BEST baseball book ever written and one of the coolest guys to ever put on a uniform.Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑11 Jul 2019, 6:32amJim Bouton, author of the still excellent Ball Four and inventor of Big League Chew.
