Correct. They don’t do that a lot. Here’s an example.101Walterton wrote: ↑10 Sep 2018, 8:43pmSo if the QB throws a long pass forward and the guy catches it and runs forward, if he is about to be tackled can he pass it backwards to a team mate who is unmarked?BostonBeaneater wrote: ↑10 Sep 2018, 8:39pmCorrect. One of the best examples I can think of, from one of the greatest games ever played, in the AFC playoffs, the Dolphins pulled off a perfect hook & ladder against the Chargers to end the first half. I still remember watching that game, with all that scoring, and then no one could make a fucking field goal to end it.BostonBeaneater wrote: ↑10 Sep 2018, 8:39pmCorrect. Thanks, yes never previously seen anyone pass the ball after they receive the initial pass. Why don't they do that more often rather than just run until they get tackled or score?BostonBeaneater wrote: ↑10 Sep 2018, 8:53pmCorrect. They don’t do that a lot. First of all, that would be fun and fun is currently not patriotic. On top of that it would likely result in more screw ups and giveaways to the other team.101Walterton wrote: ↑10 Sep 2018, 11:05pmThanks, yes never previously seen anyone pass the ball after they receive the initial pass. So as long as the pass goes backwards (like rugby) it is ok even if they don't catch cleanly and it bounces.BostonBeaneater wrote: ↑10 Sep 2018, 11:09pmFirst of all, that would be fun and fun is currently not patriotic. Just like rugby but without the steady game flow and disgusting ears.101Walterton wrote: ↑10 Sep 2018, 11:15pmSo as long as the pass goes backwards (like rugby) it is ok even if they don't catch cleanly and it bounces.BostonBeaneater wrote: ↑10 Sep 2018, 11:09pmFirst of all, that would be fun and fun is currently not patriotic. Re: NFL 2018
Yes, but its also a live ball for the other team to get. Its a fumble of sorts. If you lateral it back to a teammate and he drops it the ball is still live and it will get ugly. Whereas with a forward pass if nobody catches it, the ball is dead when it hits the ground.101Walterton wrote: ↑10 Sep 2018, 11:15pmSo as long as the pass goes backwards (like rugby) it is ok even if they don't catch cleanly and it bounces.BostonBeaneater wrote: ↑10 Sep 2018, 11:09pmFirst of all, that would be fun and fun is currently not patriotic. Watched a bit of the Detroit game last night (always nice to see them get clobbered) - but rookie New York QB Sam Darnold threw a pick six on his first career pass attempt and as I read the comments about passing above - couldn't help but remember Brett Favre's first career passing attempt!

...anyway...for those who don't remember or who have never seen it...his first pass attempt was batted down - back into the hands of Favre - so in a great piece of trivia - Brett Favre completed his first ever pass to himself!

Anyone who lines up behind the line of scrimmage can make a forward pass as long as they're still behind the line when they throw it. So, for example, the QB could hand off to a running back who then throws a pass. But any play where someone other than the QB makes a pass is pretty much a trick play.
Look, you have to establish context for these things. And I maintain that unless you appreciate the Fall of Constantinople, the Great Fire of London, and Mickey Mantle's fatalist alcoholism, live Freddy makes no sense. If you want to half-ass it, fine, go call Simon Schama to do the appendix.
