World Cup Thread 2018
Who are we fancying then? My outside bets are Poland and Sweden, but I feel the Germans will come through again. Are the Muricans showing any interest with their team being too shit to make the finals? England are shit too, will probably make the second round and that's it.

There's a tiny, tiny hopeful part of me that says you guys are running a Kaufmanesque long con on the board
Re: World Cup Thread 2018
Umm this is mens soccer right? I might watch some. The last time the US team was fun to watch. But I tend to lose interest due to all the flopping and over acting (women dont seem to do this nearly as much).
But its all a good excuse to play this

Aren’t Italy and the Netherlands out too? I’ll root for my boy Suarez and maybe Iceland or any other underdog doing better than they should.
Look, you have to establish context for these things. And I maintain that unless you appreciate the Fall of Constantinople, the Great Fire of London, and Mickey Mantle's fatalist alcoholism, live Freddy makes no sense. If you want to half-ass it, fine, go call Simon Schama to do the appendix.

Re: World Cup Thread 2018
I fancy Argentina. Every team that wins the WC has a player that stands out and Messi is the best player in the world. Although I am not as confident as I was before Romero got injured.
Brazil now have a goalie but like Spain defence is suspect.
France and Germany obviously favourites with plenty of world class players.
Belgium should be there as well with Hazard and De Bruyne in midfield but like England in the past they have never got all their stars to click.
As for England, probably the weakest squad they have had at a WC so who knows the lack of expectation may help them???

I haven’t taken much notice of it yet, but expect the usual suspects to do well. Belgium have a good squad too. No expectations for England, I just hope they play decent football.Heston wrote: ↑11 Jun 2018, 7:15pmWho are we fancying then? I wish you all plenty of scoreless ties!

If that's a good thing, I endorse no goals scored ever and eternal bliss for you all.

I'll watch. Will probably pull for Iceland and, generally, underdogs who surprise.

I bet on Russia. They should be able to build shittier arenas and slaughter more stray dogs than Brasil.

I'm going to root for Nigeria on account of their fantastic travel suits.
