Very funny woman whose talents were wasted on Laverne and Shirley. Helluva fine comedic director (A League of Their Own is definitely a top five baseball movie).

The question mark is wholly inappropriate.

Seriously. It’s a good movie whether you like baseball or not. Heston’s brainworm is getting uppity.

I've just realised I've seen this movie but didn't know the title. Good stuff.

Most definitely! It's a great baseball film and a really cool story! There is a group of women in the area who play vintage AAGPBL baseball. My vintage hardball team has had the chance to play a game or two against them. Lots of fun! The AAGPBL would have remained an obscure footnote in baseball history had Marshall not made A League of Their Own.

I've also always really liked Awakenings.

When the Boss and I visited Cooperstown close to fifteen years ago, there was an exhibit of the women's war league. I was struck by how many of the players were from Canada. The organizers recruited much more widely than the film suggests.

The Milwaukee area had a handful of teams - including the Kenosha Comets and the Racine Belles - who were part charter clubs in 1943. The Milwaukee Chicks played one season (1944) - but they won the championship in that single season playing in Milwaukee.

Sad news about Penny Marshall. I liked the sitcom L and S when i was a kid. Never thought she would become a great movie director back then.
'A League of There Own' is one of my favorite sports themed films. 'Big' is a great too.
