Chicago is such a crapshoot. Just a vast disparity in pizza quality every time I try a new place.JennyB wrote:Jortsville pizza is an abomination. I'd rather have Totino's.

The only pizza places that I like here serve non-jortsville pizza. There are actually some really good pizza restaurants, but they serve NY or Chicago style. With real cheese.Wolter wrote:Chicago is such a crapshoot. Just a vast disparity in pizza quality every time I try a new place.JennyB wrote:Jortsville pizza is an abomination. No. I'm in the burbs now, but I mostly lived in the Uptown/Ravenswood area.BostonBeaneater wrote:Are you anywhere near Logan Square?Wolter wrote:Chicago is such a crapshoot. I've never had Chicago style pizza but to say Papa Johns makes the best pizza in Chicago is asinine.

Chicago pizza is its own animal. For my money the best pizza in America is in New Haven, CT.revbob wrote:I've never had Chicago style pizza but to say Papa Johns makes the best pizza in Chicago is asinine.

To be fair, Papa John's is delicious.Dr. Medulla wrote:Hoy writes for Gawker!

And as good as deep dish can be, the toppings don't really matter. The art is in the sauce/crust/cheese. Everything else is more texture than anything.
Look, you have to establish context for these things. And I maintain that unless you appreciate the Fall of Constantinople, the Great Fire of London, and Mickey Mantle's fatalist alcoholism, live Freddy makes no sense. If you want to half-ass it, fine, go call Simon Schama to do the appendix.

People like to shit on PJs, but it tastes good. We don't have them in the bay area, so I only eat it maybe once every five years, but it's fucking tasty.Dr. Medulla wrote:How on earth is that fair?matedog wrote:To be fair, Papa John's is delicious.Dr. Medulla wrote:Hoy writes for Gawker!

*edit* okay we do have them here, but not anywhere near where I lived in SF. Apparently they are not too far from me now in Oakland, but I'll probably stick to Indian Pizza or another local joint that does very bay area pizzas. Ooh! The special today is roasted pork w/ tomatillo Sauce, Red Onions, Mozzarella and Cotija Cheeses
Served w Housemade Hot Sauce and Spicy Pickles
