Happy Birthday to RP!

Post by matedog »

You are old, son!
Look, you have to establish context for these things. And I maintain that unless you appreciate the Fall of Constantinople, the Great Fire of London, and Mickey Mantle's fatalist alcoholism, live Freddy makes no sense. If you want to half-ass it, fine, go call Simon Schama to do the appendix.

Birthday, son—may it be happy.

Deep Rat Theory
On this sentiment, I would agree. Rat Patrol is a programmed killbot for DCT.

But that's got jack to do with birthdays, so that needs to be taken into account on the DCT vs. GNDA comparison (and RP has made this point many times, being no slouch on the GNDA front himself). There was no more perfect analyzer on the face of the earth for IMCT than rat, andI have said this over and over again in interviews despite never having met the guy my GNDA is in opposition to. Rat can morph to any style on-the-fly, has an absolute 6th sense during a thread for what all of the other posters are thinking and be able to pull all our individual ad-libbing onto the same page, and can play to the mood of the thread and raise and lower the temperature of the board and readers when things needed to be steered. When you consider how inherently chaotic that combustible mix is, he is pretty much the binding force that holds it all together. And it is all on feel, no preparation. That's all unquantifiable, whereas you can quantify uploads of bootlegs, relative vocabulary, and post counts pretty well. So I'd use that as a caveat when we're comparing Rat Patrol to others on nuts-and-boltsy grounds (the majority of us, at least). Plus RP is a damn, damn good writer, multi-topic contributor, and Terry-mocker. Had he not been unemployed for a long stretch IMCT would've surely been one of the most bland and faceless music boards on the planet.
Happy birthday.

Have a good one, Rat!
The greatest legacy he leaves is that he made a generation of people think for themselves. He didnt quite manage to change the world but he changed the way people looked at it. It's a sad day - but what a life
