Strikethrough?
Strikethrough?
How do I do text with strikethrough around these parts? I need it to avoid embarrassment for a future post.
Look, you have to establish context for these things. And I maintain that unless you appreciate the Fall of Constantinople, the Great Fire of London, and Mickey Mantle's fatalist alcoholism, live Freddy makes no sense. If you want to half-ass it, fine, go call Simon Schama to do the appendix.

I wish I knew. I would use it as a complement to the time honored "editing someone else's post in bold."

Learning how to do this would be, like, the greatest Christmas gift of all. Waaaaaaay better than world peace.

It puts a line through text, but allows it to be readable. Like most people, I mainly use it for cheap jokes on my blog.

Re: Strikethrough?
What other purpose does it serve? Hey, I really hated what I just wrote, so rather than delete it and right something new, I'll leave it there with a line through it, then write what I want. Great to see people's drafts laid out on top of each other.Wolter wrote:It puts a line through text, but allows it to be readable. Like most people, I mainly use it for cheap jokes on my blog.

Well, I have a copy of the Declaration of Independence which incorporates Jefferson's original draft in strikethrough, so I guess that's a possible use.Dr. Medulla wrote:What other purpose does it serve? I think that's exactly the real purpose it's supposed to serve. The Microsoft Word draft editing utility (or whatever it's called) uses it for just that.Dr. Medulla wrote:What other purpose does it serve? Yeah, Track Changes or Reviewing mode—I use it all the time when I'm just copy editing for clients (as opposed to also doing layout work for them). But I'm talking about posts on a blog or a message board—what's the point of seeing what a person decided against posting, other than as part of a gag, like Wolter mentioned?Flex wrote:I think that's exactly the real purpose it's supposed to serve. If the purpose is to show the revisions being made, like as illustrative of how revision works or something. I'd say it's a pretty limited audience, but there are blogs out there on developing writing and editing skills and so forth.Dr. Medulla wrote:Yeah, Track Changes or Reviewing mode—I use it all the time when I'm just copy editing for clients (as opposed to also doing layout work for them). You're being disturbingly contrary today.
