It was when IMCT switched to requiring a Satch's username in order to download MP3's that the membership on the boards exploded through the roof because that brought ALL the lurkers out of the woodwork.

August 2004 I was moping over the loss of my idealized indie princess. I was a month away from buying Combat Rock as my second proper Clash album and two years away from my disastrous IMCT beginnings.
Look, you have to establish context for these things. And I maintain that unless you appreciate the Fall of Constantinople, the Great Fire of London, and Mickey Mantle's fatalist alcoholism, live Freddy makes no sense. If you want to half-ass it, fine, go call Simon Schama to do the appendix.

Guilty as charged!

August 3rd, 2004 I was days away from living in Chicago. At my ex-girlfriend's grandparents' house in Galva, IL.

I believe Mimi joined the board sometime during the two months I was away from it, because I had no memory of her before that point, but she was clearly a regular when I got back in mid-to-late August.

Well, I was TRYING to find the date I joined (which I honestly can't recall exactly), but I ended up with a profile of an amateur eumaas:

If you ever wanted a look at how CK and I have not really changed all that much, check out the first two thread titles here: http://web.archive.org/web/200406181305 ... chid=97357

EDIT: Wow...I don't even remember having that avatar: http://web.archive.org/web/200405020803 ... eadid=5099 (this thread makes an oblique reference to the now legendary BNC Brigade).

I feel that there is a fascistic element, for example, in the Rolling Stones . . .

I've studied the phenomenon of neo-provincialism in self-isolating online communities but this place takes the fucking cake.

So, you've just been releasing the same song over and over for six years? ;)

Beautiful stuff. There's a cultural anthropology paper to be written on Clash fans on the Internet over a fifteen year period.

Intersting to see how the forums evolved to how it is now. I don't remember any of the above, my first computer around 1996 only had a 32 kb modem, I don't think I did much internet browsing. I do remember I joined IMCT around when the Rat Patrol
From Fort Bragg upgrade surfaced. The person (99% sure it was Snoh) I traded with mentioned the forums, after lurking for
about a month, I finally joined.
