Hi all,

I registered a while back to keep tabs on my old man (Purple Hayes) as him logging in here made me know he was doing fine and I didn't have to call him every day (he hated being checked on or fussed over - which some of you may have known about if you'd ever met him - very much his own man!)

Just to keep the board updated, he's struggling but clinging on in a hospice where he's been for the last few months. He hasn't been able to talk recently but he did hear these messages and was grateful for them when I told him this thread existed a few weeks back.

Keep him in your thoughts!

Thanks for the update. I hadn't seen him on here and knew it wasn't likely going well. He is missed here.

Really appreciate the update. Best wishes to you and Robert both. We're all certainly thinking of him here.

Thanks very much for the update. Your old man is a solid dude. We're all the poorer for his absence.

I'll chime in and repeat what everyone else has said.

Rob's a top bloke and we all miss him, and we wish him the best.

Hayes is one of the sharpest and most witty people on this board of generally sharp and witty people. We've missed him a lot. We wish him and the family all the best.
Look, you have to establish context for these things. And I maintain that unless you appreciate the Fall of Constantinople, the Great Fire of London, and Mickey Mantle's fatalist alcoholism, live Freddy makes no sense. If you want to half-ass it, fine, go call Simon Schama to do the appendix.

I can't add anything to what has already been said apart from my best wishes.

Best wishes to Rob. I've met him in real life and he's a top man. Hope everything is going as well as it can be for him. Thanks for the update.
So what does Marconi playing the mamba mean? "Marconi" is referring to the radio itself. It plays a deadly snake. The snake - the mamba - is slithering from the speakers. Ready to kill greedy corporations. Ready to free the world of all that is evil, and to leave behind only the youthful idealism encompassed by the tenets of rock and roll.

Nothing more I could add but to echo what's already been said. Best wishes to Rob and his family.
