If it's true that some significant portion of 18 year olds has never had cause to digitally transfer a file in their lives, I guess that speaks to how rapidly tech is obliterating old skills. I also may be figuring wrong on when they'd start using technology on the reg (in or outside the classroom). I would have figured by age 10-11 they'd be doing a lot of work on a computer, but cloud storage was hardly ubiquitous then (in my experience).

The one thing I'll say that's very "old man yells at cloud" is that the inability to figure out how to transfer a file even if you've never done it before has a very boomerish (or even greatest generation) quality to it. Reminds me of how my mother in law struggls with a computer (or how my grandmother used to). They just couldn't wrap themselves around the "just click around until you figure it out" mindset. I think X'rs and Millennials both developed a "just fuck around until you figure it out" attitude about tech that seems to be going away (largely because companies are trying to create very curated, walled digital experiences, so don't worry I blame capitalism here).
I said something similar to the Boss. The nature of tech and its interface is eroding knowledge—I can't actually call it a skill—to the point that anything beyond touchscreen work is wholly foreign. And, yeah, the hand-holding expected is astonishing. A real wariness of experiential learning.

Say, does anyone here have one of those turntable-to-computing machine set ups and would like to do a good deed? There's an obscure e.p. that I'm kind of interested in hearing but I don't have a turntable. I've put out a call to a couple more local friends, but I'm wondering if, should that fall thru, someone would rip the record if I bought it and had it shipped to you.

Nope. It's distinctly obscure, but I found copies for sale on discogs.

Oh fudge, I misread the discogs page. There isn't a copy for sale. In case anyone was curious: https://www.discogs.com/release/1342860 ... -1979-1997

Rope is discussed in that book on chuco punk. They were inspired by riot grrrl. Two of the members, however, died in a car accident, just 17 years old. So this was a posthumous release of their only recordings.

The Boss received this phishing email yesterday:
Hi there!

I am a professional hacker and have successfully managed to hack your operating system.
Currently I have gained full access to your account.

In addition, I was secretly monitoring all your activities and watching you for several months.
The thing is your computer was infected with harmful spyware due to the fact that you had visited a website with porn content previously.

Let me explain to you what that entails. Thanks to Trojan viruses, I can gain complete access to your computer or any other device that you own.

It means that I can see absolutely everything in your screen and switch on the camera as well as microphone at any point of time without your permission.

In addition, I can also access and see your confidential information as well as your emails and chat messages.

You may be wondering why your antivirus cannot detect my malicious software.

Let me break it down for you: I am using harmful software that is driver-based,
which refreshes its signatures on 4-hourly basis, hence your antivirus is unable to detect it presence.

I have made a video compilation, which shows on the left side the scenes of you happily masturbating,
while on the right side it demonstrates the video you were watching at that moment..

All I need is just to share this video to all email addresses and messenger contacts of people you are in communication with on your device or PC.

Furthermore, I can also make public all your emails and chat history.

I believe you would definitely want to avoid this from happening.
Here is what you need to do - transfer the Bitcoin equivalent of 790 USD to my Bitcoin account
(that is rather a simple process, which you can check out online in case if you don't know how to do that).

Below is my bitcoin account information (Bitcoin wallet): 182GYiNweSTh6W3x2DUf91At496XPcC8v4

Once the required amount is transferred to my account, I will proceed with deleting all those videos and disappear from your life once and for all.

Kindly ensure you complete the abovementioned transfer within 50 hours (2 days +).
I will receive a notification right after you open this email, hence the countdown will start.

Trust me, I am very careful, calculative and never make mistakes.

If I discover that you shared this message with others, I will straight away proceed with making your private videos public.

Good luck!
What really struck me is that it's much more clearly written than the usual scam (it's also quite polite). Our guess is that it was written by AI to seem more professional and, hence, serious.
