London Calling is my favorite album of all time and for some reason I want it to lose.

I guess all that clobber and rubbish dancing was Jobsons way of standing out but he didn't half make himself look like a bit of a prat sometimes. Just as well they had those killer tunes!dave202 wrote: ↑13 May 2021, 12:21pmBest bass intro - The Skids 'Into The Valley, best guitar cutting in - The Skids 'Into The Valley', biggest knob on TOTP, The Skids 'Into The Valley' Richard Jobson.Heston wrote: ↑13 May 2021, 10:21amThe Skids - Masqueradedrowninghere wrote: ↑13 May 2021, 10:18amFun stuff - best 1979 guitar sound - Wire A Touching Display or Gang of Four Anthrax? I legit prefer Entertainment!, Metal Box, Unknown Pleasures, and 154 intellectually and aesthetically. But I'm not as much a straight-up rock fan as most are here (I'm more attracted to post-punk's/no wave's/shoegaze's/post-rock's "getting past rock" ambitions). But even with the severe pro-Clash skew in the voters here, LC merits consideration as best album of '79, no doubt.

I'm an anarcist London reggae fan, which explains my choices.Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑13 May 2021, 1:59pmI legit prefer Entertainment!, Metal Box, Unknown Pleasures, and 154 intellectually and aesthetically. Go4, Magazine, Slits, Wire
I surprised myself by letting Crass go, but these four are right at the top of my hierarchy and more important, despite how much I love Crass.

Lot of good/great albums struggling to gain traction but I think One Step Beyond is being overlooked - My Girl, Night Boat, One Step Beyond, Madness, The Prince are all top, top level tunes. Perhaps struggling because, despite that, its still the second best ska album on the list?
Overrated or overvoted so far for me is probably Armed Forces.

I struggle to get into Madness. They're just too goofy for me.drowninghere wrote: ↑13 May 2021, 4:19pmLot of good/great albums struggling to gain traction but I think One Step Beyond is being overlooked - My Girl, Night Boat, One Step Beyond, Madness, The Prince are all top, top level tunes.
