Dee-Lite and Joni (my pick from last time). For those who think of River as a Christmas song or something, I invite you all to take another listen. Joni is probably one of the greatest songwriters of all time, and this is a supreme example of her ability to draw from her heartbroken, tumultuous past to craft a beautiful, melancholy piece of music that is timeless, universal and heartachingly beautiful. What's great about Joni isn't this isn't even necessarily a peak of her craft, but rather a representation of the quality she usually brings to the table.

That said, I'd be nothing less than thrilled to see the effervescent and endlessly delightful Deee-Lite take this round either. A study in contratss between the two songs, really.

Lots of other good contenders on this half as well. It kills me that Tharpe and Tammi ended up in this heat as I'd probably just vote for them over in the other half of this heat. The vagaries of seeding plays a huge role in all of these choices.

EDIT: I should get the name of the song right, at least.

I need to listen to the other contenders in both heats. I either know them or dont and there's a lot I dont know.

Now to weed thru the pissing and moaning about Tracey Ullman song to find the actual nominees.

That "pissing and moaning" was democracy in action. If you don't like it, go back to Cuba. :shifty:

I'll make it back some day.

My point was that the pissing and moaning (a cornerstone of any democracy ) was better served in a different thread (which I thus created) than to muddy the waters for new nominations.

Think this might be the first Joni Mitchell song nominated which surprises me a bit. Could have nominated any song off that album and they'd all be worthy.

Surprised too at the early embarkations on the Sister train. You got to be holy to vote for that one ;)

I really hope there's a trace of irony here!
There's a tiny, tiny hopeful part of me that says you guys are running a Kaufmanesque long con on the board

I will have to listen to these. I only know the Deee-Lite song which I used to enjoy in the clubs, but now irritates me a bit.

Umm not too much I think most of both the pissing and the moaning was coming from some island nation in the pacific.

As an update, I'm glad Joni is pulling in a few votes and even tho I didn't vote for her I'm really glad to see Sister Rosetta look like she's make a play for the semi-finals. Good work so far, everyone.

Same, except for the once liking it part.
