Me deciding which song to pick:
Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a bowl of soup
Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a rolling hoop
Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a ton of lead
Wiggle - you can raise the dead
Pex Lives!

I wanted to buck stereotype and pick Dancing Queen, but I couldn't. Here are my notes from Dancing Queen:
-No intro, feels like you walked into the song at a random spot
-First 45 seconds are kinda dull
-Slower than I remembered it, wish it had been a touch more sped up for maximum danceability
-The piano bit is nice but it's actually not especially hooky considering its reputation
-The song is really carried by its chorus but the rest is maybe a little listless
-Agreed about the flat production. Part of it is a function of genre, but still.
-Bottom line, great chorus that really carries the song and is what everyone wants to sing and dance to
-Side point maybe, but the official music video blows
Now here's my notes from cannonball:
-GREAT intro
-God those hooks, instantly memorable
-That drop and guitar coming in at ~2:20 just fucking kills me with its awesomeness. Shivers up my spine stuff, even after all these years
-Kim's vocals are sexy as all hell.
-So much great energy here. Slinky and cool but never subdued. What alternative rock really should be. This is an, if not THE, apotheosis of the genre.
-Given my support for Blondie last week, this isn't a requirement for winning obviously, but I like that this is really Kim Deal's total creation. She wrote the song, played on it, sang it and produced it.
-Love the music video. Tons of fun. Directed by Spike Jonze and Kim Gordon so no wonder it oozes cool fun.
Anyways, going with Cannonball. I honestly don't get how people could vote otherwise. It's a titan of its genre vs a song that may not even be a top 5 ABBA tune for me.

Compared to the input in the ABBA song that is a fair decider in my book.Flex wrote: ↑12 Jul 2020, 4:03pmI wanted to buck stereotype and pick Dancing Queen, but I couldn't. Here are my notes from Dancing Queen:

In the context of your argument yesterday that the board is dominated by 70s pop fans (rather than punk fans), I would have greatly appreciated your iconoclasm.

There's a tiny, tiny hopeful part of me that says you guys are running a Kaufmanesque long con on the board

I hope you can come up with something better than that if it's a tie.

Wikipedia says she's sold over 55M albums worldwide. I won't read a more depressing fact today, I'm sure.Low Down Low wrote: ↑12 Jul 2020, 6:35pmYou needed me?Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑12 Jul 2020, 5:32pmFlex wrote: ↑12 Jul 2020, 4:41pmcome back at me when someone puts up Anne MurrayDr. Medulla wrote: ↑12 Jul 2020, 4:31pmIn the context of your argument yesterday that the board is dominated by 70s pop fans (rather than punk fans), I would have greatly appreciated your iconoclasm.
