I'm like a broken record but it's always the production of White Man that marks it down for me. If only they'd had a top producer on board instead of letting 22 year old Mick do it.
Would you agree it has the same wimpy problems as Capital Radio One? That's how I've always seen them.

Though it might just be me that thinks it sounds 'wimpy'
Yeah, that recording of Capital Radio is a bit weak, though in its defence it was just meant as a giveaway. And they righted that wrong later. White Man is such a great and iconic song it deserved better. I don't necessarily think it sounds wimpy, more tinny and harsh than anything.
Agreed.
Wimpy? WTF (White Man) could kick most other songs in the nutbag from midnight to six.
Of all the live versions I've heard it comes crashing in with great power and energy and I love that but just don't get that feel on the studio version. Like I said wimpy is probably the wrong word but it just lacks something for me in its sound.

It was usually played a bit faster live, maybe that comes into it?

As I've said before, for sound quality and performance, my favourite version is on FHTE. Yeah, Terry on drums but he does a decent job and the other positives are numerous.
There's a tiny, tiny hopeful part of me that says you guys are running a Kaufmanesque long con on the board

One downside on Topper's performances, the outro excluded, he pretty much always played the same fills. The drumming was usually pretty static (except those May/June 1980 outros) and hearing Terry play different fills is welcome. Same for Pete in 83 even if he was a bit busy.
Look, you have to establish context for these things. And I maintain that unless you appreciate the Fall of Constantinople, the Great Fire of London, and Mickey Mantle's fatalist alcoholism, live Freddy makes no sense. If you want to half-ass it, fine, go call Simon Schama to do the appendix.

ROUND 25

The Finals - Round 2

I'm So Bored with the USA is OUT with 15 votes.

One More Time received 5 votes, Safe European Home received 2 votes and Rudie Can't Fail, Straight to Hell and Complete Control all picked up a single vote.

If a song isn't listed it's because it was already eliminated.

Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a ton of lead
Wiggle - you can raise the dead
