Desert Island Discs
Re: Desert Island Discs
Just checked my list from 2013 and seriously, what was I thinking? Listening to Kraftwerk on a desert island?
Who pfaffed the pfaff? Who got pfaffed tonight?
Re: Desert Island Discs
Like Wolt, I too stand by my 2013 choices.

Re: Desert Island Discs
My five definites would be
The Smiths - The Queen is Dead.
Morrissey - Now My Heart is Full.
BAD - Medicine Show
The Who - Love Reign O'er Me.
T-Rex - Metal Guru.
If it was a true DIDs I'd probably add the next two to remind me of what I'm missing
Lonnie Donegan - Cumberland Gap.
Harry J & The All-Stars - The Liquidator.
But if it was a list of perfect songs I'd go with:
Rolling Stones - Paint it Black
David Bowie - Life on Mars
I would feel sad about not including something from Sparks/Radiohead/Aimee Mann though
Book would be The Jungle by Upton Sinclair to remind me how good I have it :)

Re: Desert Island Discs
I guess the book would be The Man Without Qualities. If I ever get to reread this, it will probably be on a desert island.

Re: Desert Island Discs
Set in pre-war Vienna (WW I, that is) it's the story of a guy committed to noncommitment. It's a brilliant character study and portrayal of a society in decay. There might be hints at an incestuous relationship with his sister, I can't quite remember. A good 25 years since I've read it.
Musil began writing it in the early 30s and wasn't even half finished when he died. Unbelievably ambitious project.

Re: Desert Island Discs
That sounds like it would be a good read. Maybe I could track down a copy. Thanks for the info.Olaf wrote: ↑12 Oct 2019, 8:19amSet in pre-war Vienna (WW I, that is) it's the story of a guy committed to noncommitment. Re: Desert Island Discs
Hello,
I'll give this a shot:
The Clash - S/T
The Ramones - S/T (40th anniversary edition)
The J.Geils Band - Blow Your Face Out
The Specials - S/T
New Order/Joy Division - Total
New York Dolls - A Hard Day's Night
Elvis Costello - This Year's Model
The Screaming Blue Messiahs - Gun Shy
The Jam - SNAP
Sly and Robbie - Strictly Drum and Bass
The Clash - All the Peacemakers (Marky's version/collection)
LCD Soundsystem - London Sessions
As with many, this could change daily. There's a lot of collection/greatest hits to save space - after all, I'm stranded on a desert island. If I knew how to do it, I check my phone for a most played feature.
If your list doesn't have a Clash album, what are you doing here?

Re: Desert Island Discs
The first post says not to include them hence the 7 discs instead of the usual 8.
