Also, I have heard "I Wanna Be Sedated" and "Blitzkrieg Bop" at least as often on the radio in the past 20 years as any given Clash song.
Very true I've seen people who can only name like 1 or 2 songs with a Ramones shirt. In addition to the albums I have a shirt, hat, button, coffee mug and keychain. Their "brand"marketing rivals that of the Misfits, not in volume maybe but in what you can get with a Ramones logo.

Oh and holy shit I just saw someone trying to sell a Misfits shirt for 17000.00

Side note: Ramones t-shirts tend to be really good. The album covers and their logo translate super well to the shirt format.
The Ramones always sold more T-shirts than albums. That's a fact right from the early days of the group. Blitzkrieg Bop is being used by AO to sell washing machines/Fridges etc. I don't think any of the original punk bands have much in the way of "punk cred" nowadays. I for one don't blame them but I still find it sad the music is being used and the guys are all now gone and not seeing the benefit.

The Adverts? I don't think Vision Express or Specsavers will be using "Gary Gilmore's Eyes" any day soon.

Cock Sparrer! They got tougher as they went along. Punk as fuck, imho.

Addendum: Acknowledgement that this whole exercise is très silly.

Yeah they probably did to be fair. But they had very little success. The big punk bands all had some chart success and saw it as an evil necessity to get the message across to a wider audience.

Nah I'm glad I got to see bands like the Ruts/SLF/The Skids/U.K. Subs/X-ray Spex on the tv and kinda sad that I didn't see Cock Sparrer as so many bands owed them.

Sorry what's your point? That some bands have more cred because their music is less commercial?

Ah gotcha mate.
I mean, what do you consider to be "punk cred," if not a lack of commercialism?
