I like the album version better than the single. The string instruments work well with the lyrics.Kory wrote:That's 'cause Bruce Foxton wrote it!Dr. Medulla wrote:I've never been a big fan of "Smithers-Jones"—I don't hate it and I won't skip over it, but it's not up to Weller's standard. Weller liked it so much, and wrote A Stones Throw Away in 84 or 85.

There's a tiny, tiny hopeful part of me that says you guys are running a Kaufmanesque long con on the board

Look, you have to establish context for these things. And I maintain that unless you appreciate the Fall of Constantinople, the Great Fire of London, and Mickey Mantle's fatalist alcoholism, live Freddy makes no sense. If you want to half-ass it, fine, go call Simon Schama to do the appendix.

Weller did contribute to the end of the track with his Ray Daviesesque line "put on the kettle and make some tea, it's all a part of feeling groovy....."daredevil wrote:I like the album version better than the single. Re: The list of perfect songs:
Surprised no Brian Eno songs have been mentioned yet.
Brian Eno - "By This River," "Everything Merges with the Night," "Needles in the Camel's Eye," "On Some Faraway Beach," "St. Elmo's Fire," "Taking Tiger Mountain"...

There are a lot of perfect songs out there, it seems.
Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a bowl of soup
Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a rolling hoop
Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a ton of lead
Wiggle - you can raise the dead
Pex Lives!

Anyways, I can't remember if it's been mentioned before, but In My Eyes by Minor Threat is fucking perfect.
