Bill Nelson of Bebop Deluxe and Red Noise produced The Skids.

Which reminds me Sound on Sound by Bll Nelson's Red Noise is one of the greatest records ever made so i'm off now to play it.

Somebody was trying to tell me that CDs are better than vinyl because they don't have any surface noise. I said, "Listen, mate, "life" has surface noise."

Pod and In Utero have terrible, inaudibly muddy sound. Not a couple of his better mixing board efforts, but I'll agree that he's normally pretty brilliant.

Back in '01, I think, Wire recorded some tracks with Albini, but they decided they didn't like the results and won't release. Bastards.

Jack White.

He's produced his own albums as well as people like the Von Bondies, Greenhornes, and Loretta Lynn.

There seems to be plenty, thanks for sorting me out. Of course Bowie himself has to be included as well: Lou Reed's Transformer, Iggy Pop's records, Hoople's All The Young Dudes.

Perhaps Eno, Albini, Vig, Lowe, Rundgren and some others could be described having equal status as producers and performing artists, whereas many of the names mentioned belong clearly in the latter category with producing as a sideline activity. I suppose that was the original idea I had.

Dammit, Trent Reznor!
