Somebody was trying to tell me that CDs are better than vinyl because they don't have any surface noise. I said, "Listen, mate, "life" has surface noise."

1. Moonage Daydream
2. Sweet Thing/Candidate (that's one song, damn it)
3. Life on Mars?
4. TVC15
5. Diamond Dogs (especially with the Future Legend lead-in)
Shit, I could have put another 30 songs, probably.

Re: Heston's Friday Top 5
Tho I should be a Bowie fan, we've never quite clicked (that's why Wolter and I haven't had kids together; also, he has toxic sperm). So my choices are limited to singles that I do like, but they're undoubtedly weak compared to the Bowiephiles.
1. Space Oddity
2. Ashes to Ashes (the junkie revelation always feels like the saddest thing ever)
3. Heroes
4. Suffragette City
5. Rebel Rebel

Re: Heston's Friday Top 5
I just listened to Diamond Dogs for the first time. It's good.
Look, you have to establish context for these things. And I maintain that unless you appreciate the Fall of Constantinople, the Great Fire of London, and Mickey Mantle's fatalist alcoholism, live Freddy makes no sense. If you want to half-ass it, fine, go call Simon Schama to do the appendix.

Re: Heston's Friday Top 5
I gave much thought to my Number 5, it coulda been TVC15, Five Years, Blackout, Look Back in Anger, Young Americans, Memory of a Free Festival (can't count how many times I came home at 3AM and put that on while I passed out on the carpet)or a host of others but I went with.....
5. Time - I love the lyrics, love the screeching short guitar solo and the catchy repetitive chorus.
4. Moonage Daydream - Easy choice, great fun rock n roll.
3. Station to Station - It's not the side effects of the cocaine, I'm thinking it's three songs in one! Earl Slick shines at the end.
2. Sweet Thing/Candidate - That song oozes sleaze, it's like listening to a movie. It's actually an upset that this isn't number 1
1. Changes - Yeah, I went with the huge hit. Why is it a huge hit? Cuz it deserves to be. Autobiographical and the catchiest chorus ever. Last Sunday I was eating in a restaurant and I told my wife I felt the vibration of "Changes" on the table and she thought I was crazy. We walked two rooms over and it was indeed playing in the bar. "Changes" is the greatest song that has ever been written and recorded by anyone. Time may change me, but I can't trace time. I said that time may change me, but I can't trace time.
