I'm certain I've read that Hungry Heart was written for The Ramones.
Yeah, I think I read the same.
True.
Springsteen's manager told him he had to stop giving away hits and record some for himself, hence the veto. Isn't that why they turned to Baby I Love You as it is done in a similar tempo? I think I read that around the time, but since it was Spector producing he might have wanted that done anyway, although then again it might have been the obvious substitute.

Yep Landau said Springsteen kept on giving away songs that others were having hits with. Manfred Mann "Blinded By the Light" and Patti Smith "Because the Night".

Not to mention "Fire" which the Pointer Sisters had a huge Top 40 hit with in the US in '78.

I mean, Bruce recorded his own versions of those. Maybe he should’ve done a better job, and they’d be hits*

(My favorite Fire is Robert Gordon)

*i think I actually do prefer his “Blinded By the Light.”

Manfred Mann had covered a song Springsteen had already recorded on his first album, but in the case of Patti Smith, Robert Gordon with 'Fire' and a few songs given to Southside Johnny he was beginning to be a bit too generous. This generosity was continued once he had established himself, with Gary US Bonds reaping the benefits among others, but Landau was correct in reigning him in at the time.

A surprising early pioneer of Springsteen in the UK was Alan Clarke of The Hollies who covered 'Born To Run' although I'd love to know if it was a genuine admiration, a reflection of the hype surrounding the 1975 shows in London or because "if Manfred can do it, so can I!"?

Yep, I love what's considered cheesy 80s rock. That's why Asia's Heat of the Moment is one of my favourite tracks ever.

No, just accept that he's more awful and be content that you had a fine, wretched run. Don't seek to be worse.

I love Tom but holy shit. Would love to hang out with all these English madmen some day.

Also is it my turn this week and where can I see the master list before I introduce a cricket worthy topic?
