Alan Partridge's misunderstanding of the U2 song.

Yeah it does reflect the same.

They would never get away with that now on BBC Radio. In at the tradesman's entrance ooh!

Also segues into Gangsters and Don't Be A Dummy which Numan recorded for the Lee Cooper jeans commercials.

Seriously it’s not about the shooting? now I will have to go read the lyrics :scared:

It's an obvious play of the term "Bloody Sunday".

Aaaah!
Take a look around you all is dead
A good look around makes me see red
What have they done to us?
Taken all the fun from us
We might as well stay all day in bed
Of course we're right
You know we're right
It's worse than Monday
Yes, of course we're right
You know we're right
Ten-to-one, there
Yes, of course we're right
And you know we're right
There's nothing to do on Bloody Sunday
The truth puts on its only face
A sadness to keep you in your place
Don't do the scapegoat trick
Don't do that doublethink
But seven days a week
Let's pick over the traces
Of course we're right
You know we're right
It's worse than Monday
Yes, of course we're right
You know we're right
Ten-to-one, there
Yes, of course we're right
And you know we're right
There's nothing to do on Bloody Sunday
They say the day of rest
Ought to be Sunday best
But they do what they can
To make it Sunday worst
The week is weak enough
Without a non-day first
Bloody Sunday
Bloody Sunday
Bloody Sunday
Bloody Sunday
Bloody Sunday

Ok I’m with you. So it is referenced in the SLF sarcastic way.

Yeah my take on it is as if SLF are making light of the fact that everyone has an opinion of what went on there in Derry '72. But those people don't have to live there so they don't really feel what it's like to have fuck all to do and nowhere to go because you simply can't walk out into town where the streets are not safe.

Here's what Jake says about it in the "Song By Song" book:
Gordon had this idea to do a song called 'Bloody Sunday', which was the 'having the nothing to do' idea again - it was nothing to do with the events in Derry. In Northern Ireland they used to do stuff like chain the swings up in parks on a Sunday. You weren't allowed to do anything: swimming pools were closed, cinemas were closed, everything was shut down because you were supposed to be going to church all day. That was what you were supposed to do.
Really fucking tedious and basically I tried to come up with a vaguely Irish sounding guitar riff to go along with it just to highlight the supposedly 'fun-loving Irish', not having fucking fun on a Sunday mate.
Who pfaffed the pfaff? Who got pfaffed tonight?

Cheers Olaf. I thought that was going to be Jake's take on things. Either way the song would work but making it deliberately non political just highlights the truth all the more.

"The sunshine bores the daylights out of me." is a Stones lyric that I was to shout along with everytime I hear it.
We reach the parts other combos cannot reach
We beach the beachheads other armies cannot beach
We speak the tongues other mouths cannot speak
