I appreciate that the strategy here is to split what we'll call the "sane vote" between two options (presuming "Black Diamond" refers to the infinitely superior Replacements version), but I'm moderately confident that even in this scenario Kiss is gonna end up third.

I'm abstaining. They each have their place. KISS can be fun to watch and appreciate their excesses; quite a good laugh in an over the top/Spinal Tap way (plus I like fireworks) - the Dolls destroy and embody rock and roll during their high (no pun intended, Johnny) points. I like listening to them both - depending on my mood - seldom during the same evening/workout.

New York Dolls > Replacements > KISS

The Replacements' Black Diamond is probably better than KISS's best song. Likewise, anything the early Dolls ever did especially Frankenstein is better than KISS and the Mats on a bad night. Maybe even some of the newer Dolls stuff, like You Don't Have to Cry off the latest album which I really love.

I think IMCT should have a FAQ and every answer to any question should be a link to this poll.
