Nothing betters this A side??
Doesn't seem like a lot of ska, despite the title.

I'd say this is underrated but I realized I don't know how popular they are/were.
I think that even in the 4AD constellation, they were pretty under the radar. Of course, M/A/R/R/S blew everything up.

Most tribute records suck. Especially "a goth tribute to …" records. Maybe because this is a goth tribute to Bauhaus it doesn't suck. Which isn't to say it's good—something you'd play multiple times and recommend to friends instead of enemies—but I'm three songs in and I haven't been compelled to hit skip yet.

I usually wait until winter for my annual playing of this but we had some thunder and lightning earlier. It's going on now.

I can't listen to it more than once a year but when I do I thoroughly enjoy it. Walterton is cracked, he was into his lost decade by this stage.

Exactly. One of the greatest winter albums ever, and indeed one of my top 10 desert island (or arctic station) albums. In fact their first three albums all hold the same spell for me, though the rest of their catalogue is merely great.

Genya Ravan - 'Urban Desire' (1978) Very overlooked album from the NYC CBGBs late 70s punk era.
Holocaust surviving refugee/New Yawk City transplant who fronted one of the very first all-female rock n' roll bands - Goldie & the Gingerbreads - who toured with the Stones, Kinks and Yardbirds; produced the Dead Boys debut, 'Young Loud and Snotty' (and supposedly gave them all head just to get them to "straighten up and fly right"); Lou Reed does his jive ass routine on one song, John Cale covered another contemporaneously. "Jerry's Pigeons" is one of those ferocious, all-encompassing songs where you don't know whether to rock out, dance or just cry for the sheer grimy, lusty, longing heart of it it all. Oh, and the toughest version of "Back In My Arms Again" you'll ever hear.

Listened to this again after choosing this on the Top 5. The sound is easily comparable to the Oasis album Be Here Now and musically would slot nicely in in my opinion.
