I don't think Joy Division would've sounded like this though. Maybe if they had stuck with the more punkier sounding Warsaw then who knows.
That's what I meant. Listen to Warsaw and most of the stuff from Still and there might be some musical commonality there. It's all speculation, of course, but Joy Division's harder edge leans in the KJ direction.
Oh yeah I definitely hear it in the early demos and Warsaw.

I probably have a slight preference for the second album over the first because of the mesmerizing percussion and even darker atmosphere. The songs aren't better but the overall sound and experience is. I think. Maybe.

Pound for pound, I'll take the studio cuts on Still over the other two JD albums. "Dead Souls," notably, is my favourite song of theirs, and "The Sound of Music" might be in my top five.

Shadowplay and New Dawn Faces are exceptional for me.

Difficult call for me I might slightly prefer the first album due to the songs being stronger but hey six of one and half a dozen of the other.

Okay, last KJ for the evening, I suspect.

I think I've only listened to this once before, maybe twice. I've never been especially impressed with any of their live albums. It's not like they're awful or anything like that, but the studio versions almost always sounds better to me. Maybe my expectations are that the whole thing should sound like it's coming close to flying apart, but it never does. I'll probably skip other live discs in this re-listen.

IMCT has always been a Killing Joke board.
There's a tiny, tiny hopeful part of me that says you guys are running a Kaufmanesque long con on the board

I've only got a few more days left of this, I think, promise! Then I'll get immersed in, I dunno, Scritti Politti or something.

Am I crazy or is Can't Stand Me Now miles ahead of the second best Libertines song?
Look, you have to establish context for these things. And I maintain that unless you appreciate the Fall of Constantinople, the Great Fire of London, and Mickey Mantle's fatalist alcoholism, live Freddy makes no sense. If you want to half-ass it, fine, go call Simon Schama to do the appendix.

You should ask Mark Keds who used to front the Senseless Things as he has a co-write on that track. I really love that track but there are a few crackers. Time For Heroes/Don't Look Back into the Sun/Death On the Stairs/Up the Bracket..
