Name a better one and we can compare. As you may know I'm not a fan of the Faces or the Stones after about 1972.

Well what are we talking here - a song itself or Woody's guitar playing?Heston wrote: ↑06 Mar 2018, 6:55amName a better one and we can compare. As you may know I'm not a fan of the Faces or the Stones after about 1972.
That Birds song is just generic third tier 2nd wave British Invasion stuff.

Well I meant song-wise but I can sense I'm fighting a losing battle.
I personally think the Birds song is brilliant. Roughly produced but a brilliant vocal take and atmospheric recording. What can you offer me, something off Voodoo Lounge maybe?

Re: What Are you Listening to Right Now?
To me the singer just sounds like a bargin bin Steve Marriott, and the guitar doesn't sound like Wood at all. The phase (more likely a slowed down Leslie) is kinda cool, but he didn't really come into his own til the Faces (though his bass playing with the Jeff Beck Group was distinctive). I'm a fan of Wood's playing, and that Birds track just seems really average for what was happening at the time.Heston wrote: ↑06 Mar 2018, 11:42ammuppet hi fi wrote: ↑06 Mar 2018, 11:10amWell what are we talking here - a song itself or Woody's guitar playing?Heston wrote: ↑06 Mar 2018, 6:55amName a better one and we can compare. As far as songs, there's too many to mention.

I'm not saying his playing is particularly great on it, I'm just saying it's the best song he's been involved in to my knowledge.muppet hi fi wrote: ↑06 Mar 2018, 12:02pmTo me the singer just sounds like a bargin bin Steve Marriott, and the guitar doesn't sound like Wood at all. Re: What Are you Listening to Right Now?
That's an extraordinary claim. Even if you don't dig Rod Stewart's singing, how can you deny the greatness of some of Wood's songwriting collaborations with him and Ronnie Lane? Never mind his work with the Stones (don't start. And it's not just you, mate ).Heston wrote: ↑06 Mar 2018, 1:13pmI'm not saying his playing is particularly great on it, I'm just saying it's the best song he's been involved in to my knowledge.muppet hi fi wrote: ↑06 Mar 2018, 12:02pmTo me the singer just sounds like a bargin bin Steve Marriott, and the guitar doesn't sound like Wood at all. Their jangle pop record, sounding a lot like the Sundays or the Smiths. If you like that kinda stuff, you might like this stuff.

Listening to my mate poet351's complete recording of this gig. Through a 25 year old Bose clock/radio/CD player. With some vodka & iced tea. At 1315 hours. And another 9 inches of snow last night/this morning. Feels fucking liberating.

Moby and the Void Pacific Choir, These Systems Are Failing. Kind of an electronic post-punk, surprisingly aggressive. Also pretty good. Far better than I would have expected.

Hello,
In the Beginning There was Rhythm - Various Artists. Good. Eclectic. Post-punk. This is a collection of some guitar (GoF's "To Hell with Poverty") but mostly electronic post-punk (whatever that means) - Cabaret Voltaire, Throbbing Gristle, even early Human League - with some funky stuff (A Certain Ratio, 23 Skidoo) included. Some unknown (to these ears, at least) worth knowing.

I'm watching the one day international between New Zealand and England. So far between the overs I have heard Always the Sun (the Stranglers), Small Town Boy (Bronski Beat) and Stray Cat Strut (Stray Cats). 101W, are you operating the PA system?
EDIT - one of the England batsmen just got hit by the ball in his private parts, and the DJ played The Nutcracker on the PA!

Moby and the Void Pacific Choir, These Systems Are Failing. Kind of an electronic post-punk, surprisingly aggressive. Also pretty good. Far better than I would have expected.
I was just listening to the follow-up, More Fast Songs about the Apocalypse. It's similar to what you've described - fast, aggressive, more electronic than guitar. Pretty good.

I was planning on checking it out in the next little bit, but good to hear that it gets a thumbs up. Moby's a very hit and miss guy for me.gkbill wrote: ↑06 Mar 2018, 7:40pmHello,Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑06 Mar 2018, 4:15pm
