Ha! I hit play without looking and right away I thought, "James Chance." Not always what I want to hear, but I do dig Buy and Off-White.

Since starting that Slits bio (finished today, btw), I've been listening to them a lot. Cut remains one of the embarrassment of riches of 1979 and I've warmed considerably to Return of the Giant Slits. Listening to Ari Up's record from a few years before her death. "Me Done" is fucking groovtastic.

I have a compilation of NAS that's great. "My Whole World" is especially deeply affecting.laxman wrote: ↑17 Dec 2022, 3:06amHave you listened to the New Age Steppers? This is pretty fun - better than most of American Dream - I hope for more in this direction.

Forces have been looting
My humanity
Curfews have been curbing
The end of liberty
We're the flowers in the dustbin...
No fuchsias for you.

Discovering them for the first time was so amazing. I used to trade tapes with people in the early days of the modern internet. I got a tape with one song and I immediately needed more. Eventually I waS able to find a place online that had Beggars... so fucking amazing.

"Beggars Can Be Choosers" is brilliant. First single I bought was "Kick Out the Tories/Mindless Violence" which was their third 7" in 1981. Saw them a couple of times live and they were great.revbob wrote: ↑17 Dec 2022, 6:25pmDiscovering them for the first time was so amazing. Mydolls, A World of Her Own. Texas punk band from the early 80s. Reminds me somewhat of early Siouxsie and the Banshees (not because of the female singer but the music itself).

Such a wonderful collection of eclectic string pieces. So much infectious joy in this music.

Simon Jeffes (Penguin Cafe Orchestra) produced The 101ers "Keys to Your Heart" and helped arrange the strings intro to Sid Vicious "My Way".
