This is Napoleon of Notting Hill? I've only heard a high gen/speeded up version of TRAC, never knew song titles or caught many lyrics. Poor Joe (at that time).Silent Majority wrote: ↑22 Feb 2018, 8:21pmMy understanding is that Mick called the song Winning and one of the Memphis Mafia - Kris Needs or Robin Banks - renamed it on a tape that leaked. It's a wonderfully apt and vicious image for crazy Joe Strummer in '85, charging across the metaphorical Russian plains against General Winter.

Yeah, I transcribed the lyrics when we got it. I've always been struck by the raw emotional hurt that Mick displays in them. it's almost too personal, clearly a cathartic bit of songwriting.muppet hi fi wrote: ↑22 Feb 2018, 8:25pmThis is Napoleon of Notting Hill? Not sure, I listened to it on YouTube. Someone uploaded Marky's remaster.
There's a tiny, tiny hopeful part of me that says you guys are running a Kaufmanesque long con on the board

Van der Graaf Generator The Quiet Zone/The Pleasure Dome.
It’s prog, but the good stuff that doesn’t sound like Yes or ELP making circus music and ripping off Mussorgsky.

Not as good as Witchazel or Kill the Wolf unfortunately.
I know he's known more as a comic actor, but his music fits in with a lot of what the Ghost Box guys are about, except it's not primarily instrumental. So I really dig his stuff.
I feel that there is a fascistic element, for example, in the Rolling Stones . . .

VDGG are the kings of prog as far as I'm concerned. They took it in exactly the right direction. And I even like the three main Yes albums.

I got into VDGG fairly recently, but yeah. They actually feel like musical progress, not the regression into just adding classical music to rock that most mainstream prog bands did.

Peter Hammill's solo stuff is also great, at least for the first 10 or so albums that I'm familiar with. A little more intimate, but definitely adventurous.Wolter wrote: ↑23 Feb 2018, 4:47pmI got into VDGG fairly recently, but yeah. One of the reasons I need to leave West Michigan is the fact that I heard “We Built This City” THREE TIMES TODAY.

Hello,
The Sherlocks - Live for the Moment. Competent. Guitar. Rock. This is unoffensive guitar rock. Too polished but decent energy. You wouldn't change the radio station if a song of theirs came on but you may not seek them out. A few good tracks but lacking edge - seems to be a recurring point in my listening. I may listen to them again - maybe not.

Re: What Are you Listening to Right Now?
Only four on 'Stink', but , as with all the 2008 remasters, the bonus cuts are all from the sessions. Very well done re-release campaign it was - no over-compression ("brickwalling") and Paul and Tommy were very involved (as well as Peter Jesperson).Wolter wrote: ↑24 Feb 2018, 2:43amMy personal favorite ‘Mats release.
