Ladysmith Black Mambazo - 'Shaka Zulu' (1987).
Probably their best known international album due to Paul Simon and Roy Halee's production, it's hard to differentiate this Warner Bros. debut from their usual Shanachie Records releases, excepting a few songs sung in English. Utterly gorgeous and moving with no hint of preciousness. And when they stomp their feet it has true atavistic power.

I saw them around that time as well as 20 years ago. Great shows - amazing to hear music for ~2 hours with no instruments - a cappella. It was very moving when they finish with Nkosi Sikelel'iAfrika and you can see the emotions of the band and South Africans.

Nice! (never seen them other than TV/video) Did you know their sound before hand or was the show just something you caught on the fly? (i.e. your old lady dragging you out to it and you saying "yes, dear")revbob wrote: ↑22 Jun 2019, 8:59pmSaw them live probably 15 years ago, was a good show.muppet hi fi wrote: ↑22 Jun 2019, 8:25pmLadysmith Black Mambazo - 'Shaka Zulu' (1987).

Hello,
Titus Andronicus - The Obelisk. Great Punk Rock. I liked the Monitor but this is better - really solid Rock and Roll. It's so good I'm including two videos.

edit: Been working my way thru all the Mojave 3 records today, chronologically. Up to Spoon and Rafter, which remains my favourite.

I should have listened to this days ago to better prepare, but whatever. It's always enjoyable but it never really rises above that for me. God, what a dreadful sleeve, tho, especially that font. Never let the intern with all the concussions do the sleeve.
