Mono is best for 60s stuff in general.

Great album! They really screwed up on the stereo version, mono is the way to go with that one
I'm not sure a true stereo version was ever done of that album (or many of their early albums). I agree - the stereo mix is awful. Crummy processed fake stereo. I don't have the 2002 remaster - but I'm guessing it wasn't good. Finally hearing it in mono was mind blowing.

Yeah the stereo processing of mono recordings in general is not great. The Kinks and The Who maybe the exception but as Townshend says it's really mono deluxe on The Who tracks.

One of my favourite ever albums is Village Green and I much prefer it in mono.

Oh yeah I can't really think of any 60's album that was improved by it's stereo counterpart. Just that some were better than others. And yes that is a brilliant album.

I actually like Face to Face, Something Else and Village Green in Stereo as well as the Beatles and Stones in Stereo. I'm in the minority but not a big fan of mono

Just picked this up at an actual record store. The Rolling Stones, 'On Air' [live at the BBC 1963-65] (2017).
The sound is all over the place, very raw. And it's a beast. Further documentation as to why they were a far better R&B band then any of their contemporaries (Beatles, Kinks, Who, Small Faces, Animals, etc.). And the never recorded cover of Bo Diddley's proto-rap "Cops and Robbers" is hilarious. Jagger was 20, middle class, English, had never been to the US, and he nails the patois of urban black American dudes. How'd he do that???
I'll grab that very soon
Oh you'll dig it, man. Only a couple tracks have the screaming chicks, and they're not too loud (like on 'Got Live If You Want It'); Brian's guitar is often louder than Keef's but you can more fully appreciate what a taut rhythmic force they were back then. And Bill's witty rumble and Charlie's barbaric clatter (hey, the man didn't even know how to play rock n' roll back then!) super charge the whole thing.
I got it and I LOVE IT!!!! Roll Over Fucking Beethoven by the Stones? I my jaw hit the floor!

So good. Strangely, Cheap Trick are one of those bands I listen to a lot for a month every year then sort of forget about them.
