The two best pre-Berlin Bowie albums
The two best pre-Berlin Bowie albums
Because I'm not insane, I'm allowing two choices for best. Option number limitations mean I've got to do this thing as a two parter.
Mine: Aladdin Sane and Diamond Dogs

I feel that there is a fascistic element, for example, in the Rolling Stones . . .

Re: The two best pre-Berlin Bowie albums
Ah, that's still too hard, I had to go with Rise and Fall plus Station, but not to say I haven't had at least a hundred 3 AM spinnings (the record and the room) of Diamond Dogs.

Pretty strong run there, isn't it? Young Americans isn't even that bad--if the songs were shorter it'd rank higher I think.

Ziggy and Diamond Dogs.
And yes, that is a fantastic run. From Man of Words, Man of Music/Space Oddity through Scary Monsters, he was consistently hitting Deity status.

Hunky Dory and Diamond Dogs here. Two best post-sellout hell Bowie albums? Heathen and Outside, aka Hunky Dory II and Diamond Dogs II.
If you ever take the time to delve into Bowie's run from Space Oddity to Scary Monsters you'll have a hard time ever taking the Clash seriously again. IMO that stuff gives the Beatles a run for their money. Greatest solo artist in the history of modern pop, bar none.

While I still love me some Clash, I have to say Christopher is right on the money, especially on that last sentence..Major Tomtopher wrote:Hunky Dory and Diamond Dogs here. Two best post-sellout hell Bowie albums? Heathen and Outside, aka Hunky Dory II and Diamond Dogs II.

Rise/Fall and, of course, Station to Station.
Although I'm still missing Aladdin, Diamond Dogs and Space Oddity, so I can't muck in too much on this.

Rise & Fall and Diamond Dogs. How very predictable of me.

Aladdin Sane just does it for me so much better than Ziggy proper.
