First song you can remember hearing
Here's where you can show your age....
Mine was Chirpy Chirpy Cheep Cheep by Middle of the Road, a ghastly song that was number one in the UK for years. I remember it's chorus of "Where's ya mamma gone?" making me very anxious for a one-year old.

I have been told I used to dance to Elvis in 1977 when the radio stations announced his death, but the earliest song I have a clear memory of listening to was Bob Seger's "Against the Wind."

I finally understand the reasoning behind the Father Ted episode "Chirpy Burpy Cheep Sheep"Heston wrote:Chirpy Chirpy Cheep Cheep

I'm not sure that I was actually aware of what was going on in any meaningful way. I was one.Heston wrote:You were that pleased?Wolter wrote:I have been told I used to dance to Elvis in 1977 when the radio stations announced his death

I can't say I know for sure, but an educated guess would be music from The Jungle Book. I had a lot of Disney records as a kid, and I know I played that one a lot.

Yeah, I narrowed it down to songs I heard on the radio, but I suspect it would be one of the Disney record books.Dr. Medulla wrote:I can't say I know for sure, but an educated guess would be music from The Jungle Book. I had a lot of Disney records as a kid, and I know I played that one a lot.

God, I have no idea....
I know I was deeply into Beach Boys when I was little.... And Duane Eddy.... and loved the Superman theme-song (it made me cry every time, though)... But I think even earlier memories recall these:
(These all make me seem older than my 32 years... But it's what I remember hearing!)
America's "Horse With No Name" and Gerry Rafferty's "Baker Street" (ahhhh, AM Radio)
Also, these funny tunes stick out in my mind from wayyyyyyyy back...
Purple People Eater
Along Came Jones
Hello Muddah, Hello Fadduh
Alley Oop
and Chattanooga Choo Choo.
I'm an old soul.
EDIT: I'm sure it was Disney for me, too, or Muppets or something...
There is, however, a cassette tape of me at 1 year old "singing" Tony the Tiger's, "They'rrrrrre GREAT!" over and over at the top of my lungs. Screaming, really.... And really, it was just the word "Grrrreat" over and over again, and sounding more like, "GwwwwwwwwwAAK!!"

Probably one of my mother's songs.
I feel that there is a fascistic element, for example, in the Rolling Stones . . .

Cartoon/Kiddie shows? Banana Splits, Scooby Doo Where Are you? Flintstones. I'm just guessing, but those are probably the first recognizable songs for me.
As for popular music, my parents always had Beatles Stones and Motown playing.

Just tell us which esoteric Armenian jazz/classic fusion jam you heard first.

Anybody have those K-Tel novelty song compilations? I remember Nutty Numbers and Goofy Greats and there was at least one more. Great stuff.KokaKola wrote:Also, these funny tunes stick out in my mind from wayyyyyyyy back...

I said nothing about lullabies. My mother writes and performs songs.Heston wrote:Lullabies don't count.eumaas wrote:Probably one of my mother's songs.

Brilliant this was my first introduction to music I have the original vinyl album it's been kept in mint condition, my first lp, I think my mum must have played it as I would've scrathed it at the time. Other early records were Please Please me - The Beatles and 5 x 5 live ep - The Rolling Stones also universal soldier by Donovan.Dr. Medulla wrote:I can't say I know for sure, but an educated guess would be music from The Jungle Book.
