Music Festivals

I avoid festivals.

I worked at Grasrotfestivalen, some local festival. Saw The New Wine, Matias Tellez, Kakkmaddafakka, Sissy Wish, Flødeklinikken, and several half-arsed bands.

If I were you I'd leave after the Weakerthans and leave a huge bomb on the festival site.

Anyone going to (been to) one this year??


Seattle's Bumbershoot festival is coming up on Labor Day weekend (first weekend in Sept), and I'm really excited... Had a blast last year (part of the time by myself, even), and looking forward to another great time this year.

Band of Horses and !!! are the two I think I'm most looking forward to this year... And a whole host of other bands I'll be catching, hopefully.

You like Band of Horses and Spoon (from another thread)! Two great bands I never hear anyone talk about. Ace Kokey, Ace!

Figured they were a bit to "Indie" for anyone here to like --- I've eclectic taste in music.

BOH were fantastic when I saw them live last year.... Plus, I always feel like I'm taking a trip back to my childhood, when my dad listened to all those late-70s be-facial-haired bands...

How do you feel about these ones? (Gonna try to see them at Bumbershoot, too):

I personally find them to be tinny and anti-groovy. Also, the guitarist plays an acoustic with JS, Marley and Toots stencilled on, which is a bit corny in my book (or incredibly awesome if you like that sort of thing). I'm a dick.

I like them and I have seen them in bars/music halls and at a festival. They sound way better in a bar/music hall. Just make sure you get up close enough to get rid of the usual festival sound issues. As a rule, I try to place myself at a distance equal to the width of the stage (or less). This usually gives a nice balanced sound.

Well, 2 out of 3 of the shows I've seen, anyway.... One of them wasn't great; the last one I saw, though, was just seriously kick-ass. I was totally geeking out. :P
