Cibelle
I feel that there is a fascistic element, for example, in the Rolling Stones . . .

I've studied the phenomenon of neo-provincialism in self-isolating online communities but this place takes the fucking cake.

Re: Cibelle
Indeed!!!
I'm a big fan of Brasilian music --- think it's the most beautiful language to be sung --- and have enjoyed Suba's Sao Paolo Confessions for several years (Cibelle's a vocalist on the album).
Nice one... I need to look up more of her stuff....

Re: Cibelle
I totally agree about Brazilian Portuguese--it's my favorite language as far as euphony in music**. As far as Cibelle, her s/t is the best--the second record is good but a little more avant, but it kinda feels like she's reaching for that American psychfolk sound... I think her s/t is a bit more appropriate to her talents.KokaKola wrote:Indeed!!!

Do you like Marisa Monte by any chance?
** this assertion got me in trouble with a Spanish friend of mine--I told her I just don't think Spanish is that interesting a language in music.

Re: Cibelle
Eh, Spanish ain't no Portuguese.... There's a much more lyrical quality innate to Brasilian Portuguese -- Spanish is more staccato and distinct in sound.... Portuguese is so round and soft; a lot more like English, I think.eumaas wrote:I totally agree about Brazilian Portuguese--it's my favorite language as far as euphony in music**. I've heard of Monte, but not listened to her much.... I have a bunch of Ceu (whom I hope to see in May when she comes to Triple Door in Seattle), a shitload of Cesaria Evora (who isn't Brasilian, but still sings in at least a variation of Portuguese), Suba, the Gilbertos, etc. And a couple of fun (more modern) compilations called Break N' Bossa and Brasil II Mil.
What else you got for me? :)

Re: Cibelle
Some Ceu (it's a little more dynamic in the studio-version, but this is what I found on Youtube...):
