Only two of their 7 albums are particularly long.
Yeah, but they've each got about 116 songs on.

Shorts songs require shorter albums.
So the argument is really about quality control over songs Vs length of album?
It depends on the album for me. I like or love all the songs on "...Wolves" except for "Maxwell Murder", but you start feeling worn down after half an hour.

On the other hand, Life Won't Wait is a more diverse album, making it an easier listen in one sitting, but contains too much filler.

My dislike of MM has been well-documented on here. Tuneless and a poor opener.

But...but...unmusical wanking bass solo!?
Look, you have to establish context for these things. And I maintain that unless you appreciate the Fall of Constantinople, the Great Fire of London, and Mickey Mantle's fatalist alcoholism, live Freddy makes no sense. If you want to half-ass it, fine, go call Simon Schama to do the appendix.

The words "bass solo" have always struck instant fear into my heart.

How about "duelling bass solos"?

There's always one exception. Same with drum solos, there's only one good one.

Rancid apologizes to their fans for making them sit through all 22 seconds of a bass solo.

You're right, "In a Gadda Da Vida" is pretty epic.

Just a quick reminder that "The Brothels" from the legendary Give 'Em the Boot is one of the all time great Rancid songs:

Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a bowl of soup
Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a rolling hoop
Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a ton of lead
Wiggle - you can raise the dead

Pex Lives!
