My theory is you listen to the first half of a Rancid album a few times, then listen to the second half a year later and pretend it's a new album.Flex wrote:Marky Dread wrote:Rancid albums are too short.

(1993) Rancid - 34.05
(1994) Let's Go - 44.13
(1995) ...And Out Come The Wolves - 49.39
(1998) Life Won't Wait - 64.00
(2000) Rancid - 38.24
(2003) Indestructible - 51.24
(2009) Let The Dominoes Falls - 46.16
Only two of their 7 albums are particularly long.

Re: Hey, remember Rancid?
The two self titleds are really the perfect length. Let's Go and Dominoes are both a shade too long and the rest benefit from splitting in half.Marky Dread wrote:(1993) Rancid - 34.05

I love Rancid, and like or love all their albums, but I have a hard time making it to the end of Wolves or or Life Won't Wait in one sitting.

Yeah, but they've each got about 116 songs on.Marky Dread wrote:(1993) Rancid - 34.05

Shorts songs require shorter albums.

So the argument is really about quality control over songs Vs length of album?Heston wrote:Yeah, but they've each got about 116 songs on.Marky Dread wrote:(1993) Rancid - 34.05

Re: Hey, remember Rancid?
It depends on the album for me. I like or love all the songs on "...Wolves" except for "Maxwell Murder", but you start feeling worn down after half an hour.Marky Dread wrote:So the argument is really about quality control over songs Vs length of album?Heston wrote:Yeah, but they've each got about 116 songs on.Marky Dread wrote:(1993) Rancid - 34.05

On the other hand, Life Won't Wait is a more diverse album, making it an easier listen in one sitting, but contains too much filler.

Re: Hey, remember Rancid?
Wolves is my fave too, and I agree about Maxwell. However take Maxwell off and that's a good length of album for me. Maybe the pacing of the album is fast but hey it's punk rock. I guess it's a mixture of RAMONES like quality mixed with a Clash VFM policy.Heston wrote:It depends on the album for me. One thing I've always said about Rancid is that just because you CAN fit 50+ minutes on to a CD doesn't mean you SHOULD.
Life... is my favorite, but listening to the whole thing can be exhausting.

Re: Hey, remember Rancid?
But isn't that the beauty of the cd 84 mins of music and there's a magical thing called a play button. Better to have the extra track than not. I always feel somewhat cheated if an album is re released and with extra tracks it still only makes 50 mins.tepista wrote:One thing I've always said about Rancid is that just because you CAN fit 50+ minutes on to a CD doesn't mean you SHOULD.

I get that less can be more but I want it all. Then listen to it a few tracks at a time if needed.

They were good last night but Tim Armstrong looks like he's lost his marbles big time. Looked like a tramp who'd wandered in off the street. Lars carried the show.

Yeah that's borne out in the footage on youtube from the Rebellion Fesival earlier this year. Now if only the group would wear suits.Heston wrote:They were good last night but Tim Armstrong looks like he's lost his marbles big time. Looked like a tramp who'd wandered in off the street.
