The choppy guitar intro of 11th Hour would have been the perfect opener and more representative of the album. MM is basically tuneless and a vehicle for a bass solo.

Ah yes, punk rock. The most tuneful genre.

WHAT
Hey Kory, is the bass solo on MM any good? I was listening the other day and it just sounds like 8th notes (? depending on how you count them) that venture in and out of key.
Yeah for sure. It's not as technically demanding as a Victor Wooten solo, but especially for punk rock it's pretty tricky because there's some string switching stuff, and staying solid at that speed is hard when you're jumping strings like that. As evidenced by the fact that nobody on YouTube can play it perfectly. I suppose it would be more impressive if Matt Freeman played fingerstyle rather than with a pick, but it's still not an easy thing to play.
Yeah, it's tough.

Go to YouTube and search for "maxwell murder bass cover" and you'll see.
Usually they start off ok, but they lose their timing toward the 3rd quarter of it.
Now I wanna hear it live to see if even HE can do it!

Still not worthy of opening the album. Maybe track 13 at a push.

I very much enjoy the Life Won't Wait ballads at least from a musical standpoint. However, it's hard to reconcile with the fact that it's a 30 year old singing about a 16 year old girl.
Look, you have to establish context for these things. And I maintain that unless you appreciate the Fall of Constantinople, the Great Fire of London, and Mickey Mantle's fatalist alcoholism, live Freddy makes no sense. If you want to half-ass it, fine, go call Simon Schama to do the appendix.
