Jeff Lynne production be damned, but this is a great track:

People complain about Jeff Lynne—with merit, at least sometimes—but he did get George to rediscover a certain pop sensibility. Which, y'know, is what a Beatle is supposed to have.

Y'know, Paul gets awarded the status of tunesmith guy while John is the more heady or intellectual guy. But this is as good as anything from solo Paul as a pure song yet it sounds like something John just knocked off. Totally irrational speculation, of course, but had he not been murdered, I think John would have navigated the 80s better than the others, just happy to do his own thing and succeed at it on his own terms.

"Live and Let Die" and "Band on the Run" from the 70s, and I'm a big fan of "Take It Away." But that's all I can think of off the top of my head.Marky Dread wrote: ↑10 Dec 2023, 4:12amBetter I think.Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑09 Dec 2023, 9:37pm

We'll never know....The Milk and Honey album really suffered from awful 80's production, and John's songs were really in demo form. I think we'd get more of the same cheesey Jeff Lynne ELO sounding muzakMarky Dread wrote: ↑10 Dec 2023, 4:12amBetter I think.Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑09 Dec 2023, 9:37pm

I’m not so much thinking about it as dealing with the fact I’ve had “Martha My Dear” in my head for the better part of the past 10 hours.

Roughly til Reagan took office. Weird that it's snarky attitude should have been right in the Xer wheelhouse, but it crapped out when most Xers hit adolescence.
