Back in the 90s, the Trashcan Sinatras owned their own recording studio named Shabby Road. Now go forth, wealthy with that key bit of knowledge!

A ranking of the Beatles' singles. No quibble with #1, but "Paperback Writer" at #3 is a headscratcher to me. Judging it by other Beatles songs, it seems rather thin to me. Ho-hum, just another solid bit of mid-period work, nothing that stands out.

I always had a soft spot for Ballad of John and Yoko, probably because - it being considered a lesser track - it doesn't suffer from being played so extensively. I find it a rather nice tune. I'm not sure I was even aware of it until the 1 comp came out, come to think of it.Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑26 Sep 2019, 9:59amhttps://www.theguardian.com/music/2019/ ... les-ranked

They have some fairly negative things to say about Day Tripper, but it's #6. I hate lists.Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑26 Sep 2019, 9:59amhttps://www.theguardian.com/music/2019/ ... les-ranked

Can I say Hey Jude is incredibly overrated? Plenty of better tunes I would stick ahead.

I've come to hate lists, too, but they do have the virtue of provoking discussion.Kory wrote: ↑26 Sep 2019, 12:58pmThey have some fairly negative things to say about Day Tripper, but it's #6. I hate lists.Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑26 Sep 2019, 9:59amhttps://www.theguardian.com/music/2019/ ... les-ranked

Is it overrated? It seems most people dislike it now. I still think it's fantastic. Its core is that perfect Beatles humanism, naive but so sincere.

Re: The Beatles song you're thinking about right now thread
I always got the impression anyway that it was regarded as one of their best numbers but could be wrong of course. As a song, it's just a little dull that really doesn't do much for me. Especially compared to possibly my top 3 Beatles songs, And I Love Her, If I Fell and Nowhere Man. I've been unfairly harsh on The Beatles here granted, but those 3 are perfection.Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑26 Sep 2019, 1:02pmIs it overrated? It seems most people dislike it now.
